DSG 0BT DSG-7 DQ500 Versnellingssbak

Hong-Paul Car Company specializes in the overhaul of the OBH DSG/S-tronic-7 DQ500 transmission. If you are experiencing problems or defects with your DSG or S-tronic transmission, let us overhaul it and give it a second life. Replacing it with a new transmission is expensive, and a second-hand transmission comes with risks. Whatever your complaints, feel free to contact us for DSG or S-tronic issues.

Possible issues with DSG or S-tronic Transmissions:

  • The DSG or S-tronic transmission jerks.
  • The DSG or S-tronic clutch slips.
  • The DSG or S-tronic transmission makes strange noises.
  • The DSG or S-tronic transmission vibrates.
  • The DSG or S-tronic shifts out of gear.
  • The DSG or S-tronic reverse gear does not work.
  • The DSG or S-tronic transmission only shifts in even gears.
  • The DSG or S-tronic transmission only shifts in odd gears.
  • The DSG or S-tronic transmission does not shift beyond 3rd or 4th gear.
  • The DSG or S-tronic transmission gets stuck in one gear.
  • The DSG or S-tronic shifts harshly into gear.
  • The DSG or S-tronic transmission basic setting is incomplete.
  • The DSG or S-tronic transmission has error code P2711: Implausible shift sequence.
  • The DSG or S-tronic transmission hums and vibrates while gently accelerating with a cold engine.

The DSG (Double Shift Gear) transmission is one of the best automatic transmissions available today. With its dual-clutch system, the DSG combines the sportiness and low fuel consumption of a manual gearbox with the comfort of an automatic. However, these automatics have some downsides, including frequent problems like vibrations and undesired downshifts during acceleration. Are you looking for a lasting solution? We are happy to resolve these issues for you.

Which VAG DSG/S-tronic transmissions can we modify?

  • DQ200 7-speed transmission with dry clutch (also MQB).
  • DQ250 6-speed transmission with wet clutch (also MQB).
  • DQ500 7-speed transmission with wet clutch (also MQB).
  • DL501 7-speed transmission with electro-hydraulically controlled dual clutch.
  • DL382 7-speed transmission with electro-hydraulically controlled dual clutch (also MQB).
  • DQ400e 6-speed transmission with wet clutch (also MQB).
  • DQ200e 7-speed transmission with dry clutch (also MQB).
  • DQ511 10-speed transmission with wet clutch in the future.
  • DQ380 7-speed transmission with wet clutch in the future.

DSG or S-tronic 'Stage One' tuning:

The basic tuning (stage 1) includes increasing the torque limiter in the DSG software, along with raising the shift pressure. Additionally, we remove the 'kickdown' in manual mode. For example, when pressing the accelerator pedal, the DSG unnecessarily downshifts before the car accelerates. For diesel cars with high torque, this is unnecessary and even undesirable, as it is better to remain in the same gear. Strangely, the DSG transmission in its original software activates the kickdown, even in manual mode. The transmission also automatically upshifts at a set RPM limiter in manual mode. By modifying the DSG software, the transmission will not upshift in manual mode but instead respect the engine limiter. Adjusting both the kickdown and RPM limiter makes the car ideal for those who love raw speed, whether on the circuit or the German Autobahn.

Maximum RPM:

But that’s not all. We also remove automatic upshifting at maximum RPM. For petrol engines, we increase the maximum RPM, while for diesel engines, we lower the maximum RPM. Why? It’s simple. In the standard DSG software configuration, the transmission upshifts at 6,800 RPM. While this is fine for standard cars, models with larger turbos often benefit from a higher RPM range. For diesel engines, the maximum power is typically around 4,000 RPM. Therefore, it is sensible to lower the maximum RPM for diesel engines (except in the highest gear, of course). This ensures that the car operates within its optimal RPM range, improving driving behavior, fuel efficiency, and overall performance.

Common problems with DSG or S-tronic transmissions:

  • Vibrations during shifting: If the car vibrates while accelerating or shifting from 1st to 2nd gear, the DSG transmission may be damaged. We can reduce, fix, and prevent this problem through software adjustments.
  • Engine hesitation: When driving slowly and suddenly accelerating, the car may respond poorly. Excessive gas may cause the automatic transmission to downshift abruptly, propelling the car forward. This is often related to clutch wear. We can resolve this via software adjustments for smoother response.
  • Vibrations at low RPM: Many DSG automatics are programmed to shift into 7th gear at around 58 km/h and 1,200 RPM. This causes vibrations due to low RPM. We adjust the RPM settings to higher values to resolve this issue.
  • Overly aggressive sport mode: For many drivers, the "S" program in DSG transmissions is too aggressive. The car produces excessive engine noise and consumes more fuel due to premature downshifts. We can make the "S" program more balanced, suitable for city driving or sporty driving.
  • Unwanted kickdown: Pressing the accelerator pedal causes the DSG to unnecessarily downshift. For diesel cars with high torque, this is undesirable. We can easily resolve this through software adjustments.

Advantages and solutions with DSG or S-tronic tuning:

  • Increase torque
  • Remove torque limiter
  • Improve shift time (± 20ms)
  • Raise maximum shift RPM
  • Adjust launch control RPM
