Mechatronic
The DSG transmission is equipped with numerous sensors. All these sensors send signals to the mechatronics for processing. The electronic/hydraulic control is handled by the mechatronics unit. The mechatronic control unit is the brain of the DSG transmission. It processes all incoming data from every sensor imaginable and operates both electrically and hydraulically. The mechatronics unit controls gear shifting and clutch operation, making it crucial that both software and valves remain error-free.

DSG or S-tronic 'Stage One' tuning:
Stage 1 tuning includes increasing the torque limiter in the DSG software along with raising the shift pressure. We also disable the kickdown feature in manual mode. When pressing the accelerator, the DSG often downshifts unnecessarily before accelerating, especially in diesel cars with significant torque, where it is better to remain in the same gear. Strangely, the original DSG software triggers the kickdown even when manual mode is selected. Additionally, the transmission shifts up automatically once a preset RPM limiter is reached, even in manual mode. By modifying the DSG software, the car will maintain the engine limiter without shifting up. This makes it ideal for enthusiasts seeking raw speed—whether on the track or the German Autobahn.
Maximum RPM:
But that’s not all. We also eliminate automatic upshifting at maximum RPM. For petrol engines, we increase the maximum RPM, while for diesel engines, we reduce it. Why? Because the stock DSG software typically shifts at 6,800 RPM, which is fine for standard cars, but cars with larger turbos can benefit from revving higher. For diesel engines, since the peak power is usually around 4,000 RPM, we lower the maximum RPM to avoid unnecessary revving beyond the optimal range, improving both performance and fuel consumption.
Problems with DSG or S-tronic gearboxes:
- Vibrations during gear shifts: Vibrations while accelerating or shifting from 1st to 2nd gear often indicate damage. We can fix, reduce, and prevent this through software.
- Engine lag: Poor response when accelerating from a low speed often results from clutch wear. We solve this through software, ensuring smoother reactions.
- Vibrations at low RPM: Software issues may cause the car to shift to 7th gear at just 58 km/h and 1,200 RPM. We address this by adjusting RPM thresholds.
- Excessive sport mode: The "S" mode may feel too aggressive, causing excess engine noise and fuel consumption. We can optimize this mode for better performance.
- Unwanted kickdown: We resolve cases where the gearbox downshifts unnecessarily when the accelerator is pressed, particularly in high-torque diesel vehicles.
Benefits and solutions with DSG or S-tronic tuning:
We offer various options to optimize the DSG or S-tronic transmission, including adjustments to the D + S programs, RPM ranges, and reducing unwanted downshifts.
- Increase torque
- Remove torque limiter
- Improve shift time (±20ms)
- Raise maximum shift RPM
- Adjust launch control RPM
